About Ari

I am a technical trainer and consultant who specializes in R. I help companies and government agencies both train their workforces and complete custom projects that blend Software Engineering and Data Analysis. I am an RStudio Certified Trainer.

I discovered R while working on a project to analyze real estate data. I couldn't find a package that did exactly what I needed, so I created it myself. That package, choroplethr, is now one of the most popular R packages for mapping open datasets. My work with Choroplethr culminated in the creation of Mapping Census Bureau Data in R with Choroplethr, a free 18-part video course that is hosted on the Census Bureau's official website.

Prior to starting my own business I worked as a Software Engineer at several leading tech companies in San Francisco: Trulia (acquired by Zillow), HubPages (acquired by Maven) and Electronic Arts. Over time, I gravitated towards projects that mix Software Engineering and Data Analysis.

Prior to my career as a Software Engineer I spent two years as a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. I hold a BA in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
