Over the years I have created several popular open source projects. These include:
This Python app lets users explore how the demographics in their county changed during Covid-19. It also shows how the changes in their county compare to the changes that took place in other counties. I spoke about this app at the San Francisco Python Meetup in June 2024.
Choroplethr is a suite of R packages I wrote that facilitates mapping demographic statistics. It has been installed hundreds of thousands of times and is the subject of three online courses. I have spoken about Choroplethr at several conferences.
After the Census Bureau commissioned a course on choroplethr I became interested in creating a resource that surveyed the broader R ecosystem for working with Census data. The result was "A Guide to Working with Census Data in R", which I co-authored with members of the Census Bureau.
