Ari Lamstein

I most recently worked as a Staff Data Science Engineer at MarketBridge, a marketing analytics consultancy. While at MarketBridge I developed internal tools for our data scientists, ran workshops on data science and mentored data scientists on software engineering.

I began my career as a software engineer at leading tech companies. During this time I worked on a hit video game and two start-ups that had successful exits.

I have also created several open source projects.

My most recent is the Python module multiyear, which facilitates analyzing trends in the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS). This module started out for personal use, and in March 2025 I contributed it to the censusdis package.

Prior to this I created the Covid Demographics Explorer, a Python app that lets users explore how America has changed since Covid-19. I spoke about this project at the San Francisco Python Meetup in June 2024.

Before shifting my focus to Python I created choroplethr, a suite of R packages for visualizing demographic statistics. Choroplethr has been downloaded 300k times and is the subject of three online courses.

Chroplethr

Choroplethr is a suite of R packages that facilitate the creation of choropleth (i.e. color-coded) maps. Choroplethr connects to multiple public data sources, allowing you to explore current and historic demographics. It has been installed hundreds of thousands of times and is the subject of three online courses. I have spoken about it at several conferences.
